Parry Sound Muskoka MPP Norm Miller is joining the Lakelands Association of Realtors in opposing a newly proposed Municipal Land Transfer Tax. According to Miller, the proposed tax would give power to local municipalities in Parry Sound and Muskoka to charge home buyers an average of about $10,000 on top of the cost of the home and other fees.
This new land tax is already being used in Toronto on top of the current Land Transfer Tax charged by the province, and the Ontario PC Caucus does not want to see it spread beyond that.
Miller says the newly proposed tax is not a solid option for Ontario, especially with hydro on the rise which is why he has started a petition .
The Ontario PC Caucus is also working to oppose the tax in Legislative Assembly, with Deputy Leader Steve Clark tabling a motion which will be debated on December 3rd.
