The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities wants the Wynne Liberals to leave coloured fuel tax-free. That’s the scenario right now but it could change. FONOM has learned that Ontario’s new environment minister is suggesting the Liberals start taxing the fuel. Coloured fuel is mostly used by industries in rural and Northern Ontario including mining and forestry companies. FONOM says industry already faces sky-high electricity rates making them uncompetitive and taxing coloured fuel will be another nail in the coffin.
