Carling looking at making changes to council makeup

Carling Township is considering making some changes to their council.

Right now Carling has a mayor and four councillors-at-large. At the first council of the whole meeting a deputy mayor is chosen by the mayor and councillors.

However, due to certain changes in the Municipal Act, the Township is thinking about making deputy mayor an electable position. That means residents of Carling Township would be able to choose their own deputy mayor in next year’s election.

According to Megan Bonenfant from Carling Township this was one of several options council was looking at making before the new year.

However, after discussing this at their committee of the whole meeting, council decided to defer the topic to a later date.
