Funding and renovations are coming to rural schools ahead of the new year.
Trillium Lakelands District School Board held a board meeting on Tuesday. In it they disclosed that 42 schools in the board are receiving extra funding from the government.
According to the school board, those funds have been used to hire a number of new staff:
- five student support attendance counselors
- one art consultant
- one french as a second language/special education consultant
- one indigenous education consultant
- one technology consultant
- one ESL consultant
The government of Ontario is also investing $1.4 billion into improving school buildings.

The Land of Lakes Senior Public School in Burk’s Falls is one of 54 schools that received building upgrades this summer.
The province says the original building was retrofit with modern improvements.
