Parry Sound council preparing for winter

It may still be September, but Parry Sound council is already getting ready for winter.

Council addressed two needs for the winter months in Tuesday’s meeting.

The town put out a request to contractors for pricing on a minimum of 60 tonnes of gravel and 300 tonnes of winter sand. The gravel is used mostly for shouldering on Parry Sound Drive and Geewadin Road. The sand is blended with salt belonging to the town and used for winter maintenance.

The town accepted a tender from Fowler construction for $13.24 per tonne of gravel and $15.03 per tonne of winter sand.

The cost of sand and gravel will be upwards of $5,300.

Council also awarded a snow plowing contract to Adams Bros. Construction. Council will pay the company $592.50 every time the ten municipal lots designated in the contract are plowed.

In both cases council went with the lowest tendered offer.
