CHIEFS OF ONTARIO SPEAK OUT AGAINST NEW CANNABIS LEGISLATION

Almost as quickly Ontario’s Cannabis legislation becomes law, it’s being condemned by the Chiefs of Ontario.

Regional Chief Isadore Day says the government acted too quickly when passing the law by skipping over proper consultation and engagement with the First Nations.

He says First Nations youth and Band councils were denied any opportunity from the benefits of shared revenues from the sale of marijuana.

The Chiefs of Ontario, an organization representing 133 First Nations communities in Ontario, wanted to delay the legalization of marijuana in order to be adequately prepared for its effect on local community.

Marijuana is set to go on sale in July of 2018.
