BREAKING NEWS: NOBODY HURT AS FIRE RAVAGES McDOUGALL HOME

A McDougall family escapes unharmed as fire ravages their Taylor sub-division home.

More than five people were believed to be in the house at the time of the fire.

Fire crews were called to 3 Burnside Bridge Road shortly before 8 am Tuesday morning, alerted by a family member reporting that a garage fire had spread to the rest of the home.

McDougall Fire Chief Brian Leduc says by the time crews got to the scene, the 2-storey house was engulfed in flames.

Although McDougall fire crews were first to respond, Chief Leduc says other fire departments became quickly involved.

It took crews an hour and a half to bring the fire under control. Complicating matters were the size of fire and the lack of fire hydrants in the neighbourhood.

Chief Leduc says that it was only through a system of tanker trucks that kept fire crews constantly supplied with water that allowed them to fight the blaze.

Chief Leduc would not release the name of the owners of the home but said they were known in the community.

The initial cause of the fire is not known and is currently under investigation.

I was born and raised in the former Borough of East York (now part of Toronto), a friendly community with small-town roots. After attending Ryerson’s Electrical Technology program in Toronto, I became involved in the family’s retail electronics business, eventually taking it over. During that time, I became involved in a number of community groups including the East York Community Centre Liaison Committee, and sitting on the board of the Toronto Police 54 Division liaison committee, as well as chairing the Pape Village Business Improvement Area. In 2007, I decided to pursue a career in radio broadcasting, enrolling in Humber College’s radio broadcasting program. It was a wonderful opportunity and something I’ve wanted to do since high school. After working at a number of stations in both Ontario and Alberta, I am excited to work alongside with the great team at 103.3 Moose FM in beautiful Parry Sound.
