NEW RULES KICK IN FOR THE 2018 PARRY SOUND MUNICIPAL ELECTION

New rules in the Municipal Elections Act kick-in this year for the upcoming October 22nd election.

The changes are the result of a recent review of the 1996 act.

If you’re planning on running in the Parry Sound region for an elected position, you’ll have to hold off until spring to file your nomination papers.

Parry Sound Clerk Jackie Boggs says the nomination period begins May 1st instead of January 1st , as in previous years.

You’ll have until the July 27th deadline to get your papers filed.

Other changes include corporations and trade unions no longer being allowed to contribute to municipal campaigns, and new provisions allowing candidates to campaign in apartment and condo buildings.

Boggs also advises that any third party advertisers must register with her before they can place any ads.

If you have any questions about the upcoming election, you can reach Jackie Boggs at the Parry Sound Municipal Offices by email at [email protected].
