The numbers are in for West Parry Sound’s Festive R.I.D.E. campaign.
The program targeting drunk drivers ran between November 24th and January 2nd.
In total, there were 174 spot checks throughout the region. That’s compared to 120 last year.
Three drivers had their licences suspended after roadside warnings by police, compared to six for 2016-2017.
Roadside suspensions are issued when a driver registers between 50 and 80mg of blood alcohol on a breathalyzer test and can be three, seven, or 30 days in length.
West Parry Sound OPP Constable Kyle Ney says the length of the suspension is determined by the number of times the driver has tested within the warn range.
During the program, seven people were charged with alcohol-related driving offences although some were not at R.I.D.E. spot checks.
Constable Ney says the numbers don’t always reflect the reality on the road.
During the same period last year, three people were charged with impaired driving.
