WAUBUNO BEACH SPLASH PAD STILL ON HOLD FOR 2018

The Waubuno Beach Splash Pad may still come to life but not in 2018.

Splash Pad Committee member Chris McDonald made his pitch to put the splash pad back on the 2018 budget before Parry Sound Town Council at its special meeting Tuesday night.

In his deputation, MacDonald suggested that council set aside $50,000 towards the overall cost of the $270,000 project and the rest be raised through various fundraising projects with local service and community groups.

Mayor Jamie McGarvey, recognizing the growing interest in a indoor pool/community recreation complex for the town, suggested that the project continue to be deferred in order explore the possibility of  sharing  resources for both a pool and a splash pad.

The mayor pointed out that the splash pad would require a system of filtering and re-circulating its water source, something a pool would also need.

Mayor McGarvey also suggested taking time to look at combining both facilities in one site as well as looking at additional financing for the projects through other municipalities and fundraising sources.

MacDonald said the splash committee would agree to the delay under those conditions.
