Parry Sound’s Fire Department is asking you to add one more New Year’s resolution.
Fire Prevention Officer John Tuck says the department wants to make sure that all your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly.
The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management is reporting there have 11 deaths in Ontario due to smoke alarm issues.
It is also advising that all smoke and CO detectors should be replaced after seven to 10 years of use and that a home escape plan is in place.
In Parry Sound, free CO detectors are available to families that can’t afford to purchase them through the Hawkins-Gignac Foundation at the fire department.
If you need one, contact John Tuck at 705-746-1845 ext. 303 or leave a message on his cell phone at 705-746-2262.
He cautions that supplies are limited and that only those that have a genuine need for a free detector should contact him.
