NORTH EAST LHIN INVESTING $1.65 MILLION TOWARDS OPIOID ADDICTION TREATMENT

The battle against opioid addiction is getting a major boost in the Parry Sound region.

The North East Local Health Integration Network announced Tuesday that it’s investing $1.65 million in Northeastern Ontario as part of its new Opioid Strategy.

The plan will tackle the growing demand for medical treatment and counselling created by opioid addiction.

Health Sciences North in Sudbury will receive $400,000 to lead the program and create one of four Rapid Access Addiction Medicine Clinics in the northeast region.

The clinics will help co-ordinate opioid treatments between clients, addiction agencies, and hospitals.

The Parry Sound branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association will receive $130,000 for enhancements to its withdrawal management and addiction counselling services.
