OPP-OFSC SNOWMOBILE WEEK CONTINUES AS POLICE RELEASE NEW SNOWMOBILE FATALITY STATS

The OPP releases new numbers as Safe Snowmobile Week continues in the Parry Sound region.

They show the 2016-2017 season had the highest snowmobile deaths since the 2003-2004 season.

The season also marked the highest number of going through ice deaths on record.

A total of 27 riders lost their lives, 9 of which died by falling through the ice.

West Parry Sound OPP along with the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs reminds you that no ice is safe ice.

The OFSC also points out that snowmobiling is unpredictable and its natural setting comes with risks that demand caution and smart decisions.

That message hits home with the January 20th snowmobile death of a Township of the Archipelago man.

The OPP also reports that most of the snowmobilers who died last season, died because of taking unnecessary risks.

I was born and raised in the former Borough of East York (now part of Toronto), a friendly community with small-town roots. After attending Ryerson’s Electrical Technology program in Toronto, I became involved in the family’s retail electronics business, eventually taking it over. During that time, I became involved in a number of community groups including the East York Community Centre Liaison Committee, and sitting on the board of the Toronto Police 54 Division liaison committee, as well as chairing the Pape Village Business Improvement Area. In 2007, I decided to pursue a career in radio broadcasting, enrolling in Humber College’s radio broadcasting program. It was a wonderful opportunity and something I’ve wanted to do since high school. After working at a number of stations in both Ontario and Alberta, I am excited to work alongside with the great team at 103.3 Moose FM in beautiful Parry Sound.
