Parry Sound is on the path to energy self-sufficiency using green power.
Plans are being finalized by Lakeland Holdings, energy developer AMP, and the Town of Parry Sound to build a solar farm on the site of the McFarlane Water and Sewage Plant.
The first phase of the project would provide power to the plant using solar energy, reducing costs and the plant’s carbon footprint.
Phase Two is projected to sustain all properties and services owned by the Town of Parry Sound
Lakeland Holdings CEO Chris Litschko says the third and final phase will service the entire town.
While Phases Two and Three are in still their planning stages, Litschko says Phase One is almost ready to go.
He estimates electric bills for Parry Sound residents will be reduced by 25 percent once the solar project is in full operation.
The entire cost of the project will be shared by Lakeland and AMP and no completion date has been announced.
