Parry Sound officially welcomed Clayton Harris, its newest Chief Administrative Officer to the council on Tuesday. Harris’ appointment follows Rob Men’s retirement earlier this month.
Harris draws on a diverse skill set including 25 years of leadership experience in municipal government and 10 years as a chartered accountant in the private sector. Harris says he’s delighted to return to Parry Sound, a place he once called home.
“What’s on the town’s current strategic plan and what’s on everybody’s mind as the election approaches: its economic development,” Harris said. “I think people are looking for employment opportunities and not just low-income employment but middle-class income.”
“I think the economic development is a priority. This will generate income for people to buy housing. We need a variety of housing options for residents,” Harris adds.
Harris doesn’t miss the GTA traffic. “It feels really good to be home,” he said.
“I’m really hoping to make a positive difference but it’s really about executing the council’s vision for the community.”
