Parry Sound OPP begins seasonal R.I.D.E. this weekend

The holiday season is upon us, and the West Parry Sound OPP reminds motorists of the dangers of mixing alcohol or cannabis with driving.

Beginning this Friday through to January 2, 2019, the OPP will team up with police services across the province for the annual Festive R.I.D.E. “Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere” campaign.

Impaired driving remains the leading criminal cause of death in Canada. Having “one too many” is a crime once you get behind the wheel. The OPP is also reminding the public that driving while impaired by drugs other than alcohol is equally dangerous and against the law. OPP Drug Recognition Experts (DRE) will be working over the holiday season to remove these irresponsible drivers from the road as well.

If you plan on consuming alcoholic beverages, make arrangements for a designated driver, take a taxi, or stay overnight.

Detachment Commander Acting Staff Sergeant Dominic Lalonde states “The holidays are a happy time to spend with your family. Make a plan, have a designated driver, spend the night or take a taxi. Be responsible and don’t drink and drive.”
