A seven-year tradition among students at Nobel Public School is going strong.
This year, 28 Grade Six and Seven students at the school have raised $1,172.75 to donate to The Salvation Army.
The students of Ms. Mandy Vankoughnett’s class have been selling hot chocolate,  popcorn and holding bake sales for two weeks during December. They use the money raised to purchase gifts for families in need.
Ms. Vankoughnett says she is very proud of this year’s student efforts and aims to make a lesson out of fundraising initiatives.
“A really important aspect is that they’re picking toys for students their age and its relatable to them. We have a group discussion about why a family may need community support and its also a math exercise where students factor in taxes and budget expenses,” she said. “None of this would happen if we didn’t have such a great Nobel community,” she added.
