The most recent labour market statistics for the Town of Parry Sound are in.
There are some notable findings for those contemplating a career change or planning for the future. Last month, the Labour Market Group reported 99 job postings in the Parry Sound District from a variety of online and print media sources. Those numbers are slightly down from its October report when there were 115 job postings.
That includes employers from Parry Sound’s largest sector, being health care where nurse aides and patient service associates make up more than 40 per cent of the labour force. The most number of job vacancies exist in the retail sector.
A majority of the workforce here in Parry Sound is between the ages of 50-70. The most sought-after skills are those in technology, namely in software like SQL or Java or Oracle while one of the more sought-after soft skills is communication.
Stacie Fiddler, Executive Director of The Labour Market Group, says that Parry Sound is similar to other small rural communities in terms of seasonal and cottage-based employment.
“Over our four-year average that we’ve been collecting this data its slightly above average for this time of year, most of those postings, of course, are in the healthcare sector,” she said.
Education, law and social, community and government services have dropped to 18.2 per cent of the workforce since October.
