Two local businesses have collaborated to marry art and beer.
Trestle Brewing Company and Muddy Handshake Pottery have partnered to create a special gift for the members of the brewery.
“Our brewery is fairly new to the community and “Our Founders Club” bought into the idea early on that the brewery was a good thing and put dollars forward to support us, in return we provide them with benefits,” said Chris Pettinger, co-owner of the Parry Sound brewery.
“It’s impossible to be a craft brewery without the community support. A limited group of people who have purchased annual memberships to the brewery entitles them to a little bit of special treatment,” noted Pettinger.
For their membership kickoff year, hand-made mugs are made by Jeff Martens from Muddy Handshake Pottery.
“They’re really a work of art. Jeff’s truly an artist and a craftsman…the mugs are special because they say Parry Sound and Trestle Brewing Company on them and it’s a great partnership with a local artist,” Pettinger said.
Martens said that he hand-made and glazed one hundred mugs and added serial numbers on the bottom of the mug to identify community supporters. The brewery keeps a numbered mug for members on the Founders Wall behind the bar.
“We can grow our community through these partnerships and supporting local businesses is such an important community effort,” Pettinger said.
This campaign had such a positive response from Trestle members that Pettinger has asked Martens to create similar member mugs to be available to the public. Jeff Martens has been operating in Parry Sound since 2009 and Trestle opened its doors in June of this year.
