CN to clear greenery around rail tracks

Canadian National Railway will be doing a bit of spring cleaning along its tracks starting next month.

The company is required to clear plants to avoid any potential safety hazards it could cause by growing onto the tracks. The annual vegetation control program will start on rail lines in Ontario beginning May 6 and is expected to wrap up July 12.

Officials with the town of Gravenhurst said a certified applicator will be spraying herbicides on and around the tracks. They added product requirements for setbacks in the around homes, aquatic environments and municipal water supplies will be met.
Anyone who interested in seeing the schedule for when the herbicides will be sprayed can visit the CN website.
