Ford protesters brave rain in Bracebridge

About 20 damp but enthusiastic protesters rallied outside of Parry Sound Muskoka MPP Norm Miller’s Bracebridge office.

They were part of a province-wide protest against Premier Doug Ford yesterday.

Diana McConnell

Diana McConnell was a co-organizer and represents the social activism group Fight for $15.

“Fight for 15 is a group that fights for decent work, just labour practices,” says McConnell. “Our campaign is a fight for $15 minimum wage, paid sick days, fair scheduling, basics that everyone deserves.”

She says a number of different groups are banding together to show that some people in Ontario do not fall in line with Ford’s policies.

“Everybody is coming together right now,” she explains. “We have labour, we have community groups, the legal clinic, PROMPT, the Women’s March, even the local riding associations have come together.  The NDP, the Green Party, the Liberals, we’re all coming together because we all know this is not good for Ontario.”

Norm Miller was not in his office during the protest but McConnell is meeting with him soon.

“I actually have a meeting with him on Friday regarding Bill 66 and Bill 47,” she says. Bill 47 is the Ford government’s much-hyped “Open for Business” legislation, while Bill 66 is about restoring Ontario’s competitiveness.
