BREAKING: Muskoka Lakes Fire Department rescue woman from the waters of Lake Roseau

A woman has been rescued from the waters of Lake Rosseau by the Muskoka Lakes Fire Department. At 5:18pm this evening, firefighters responded to a call about a person in the water near North Bohemia Island and Royal Muskoka Island in Lake Rosseau. When they arrived, fire crews found a lone woman in the water with obvious signs of hypothermia setting in. She had been in the water for approximately 1 1/2 hours and would not have lasted the night.  The fire crew from Station 5, Minett, rescued her and transported her to the mainland where Muskoka EMS were waiting. The woman was subsequently taken to South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge.  ” I am so proud of our fire crew from Minett who operated the Marine Unit, and our Water Rescue Team for conducting such an efficient rescue,” says Fire Chief Richard Hayes. “Today they made a difference.  All the time spent training and the expense of equipment proved its value in saving a life.”
