Clement questions possibility of legal gun ban

Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement says Prime Minister Trudeau may try to ban legal firearms.

The independent Member of Parliament raised the question in the house yesterday.

He started with a statement, noting, “I am told on good authority that the Prime Minister has a secret plan to ban legal firearms.”

He goes on to say, “apparently this plan is to be executed by cabinet directive with no debate in Parliament.”

Clement said the Prime Minister is planning to introduce the plan at the Women Deliver conference in Vancouver next month where New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will be in attendance.

“Can the Prime Minister confirm or deny this zero accountability secret plan?” asked Clement to the Minister of Border Security and Organized Crime Reduction, Bill Blair.

“Our government remains absolutely committed to taking all the measures that are effective in keeping Canadian’s safe,” responded Blair. “And as I believe every member of this house will agree there is no greater responsibility for any order of government than the safety of their citizens and the protection of their kids and we are prepared to consider whatever measures that will be effective in doing so.”

Prime Minister Ardern has famously led a very swift ban on automatic weapons in her country following a deadly mosque attack that took 51 lives in March.
