Committee created to advance new high school plans

PARRY SOUND, ON – The planned Parry Sound mega school needs a designer.

A committee comprised of members from the Near North District School Board was created to spearhead the project. The group was created at the last school board meeting on July 23.

They are tasked with reviewing and awarding the architectural services for a new school that will house Junior Kindergarten students, all the way up to Grade 12.

The new facility will replace the current high school, which is pushing 70-years-old

Once the new facility is created, the two elementary schools in McDougall Township will close. Students in the McDougall, Shawanaga, Carling and McKellar areas will be bused to the new Parry Sound facility.

There were thoughts the new school wouldn’t happen in favour of keeping things status quo. However, the board committed to the new school last February.
