PARRY SOUND, ON – Parry Sound’s hospital is seeing a “generational transformation” in the way it provides health care.
The West Parry Sound Health Centre (WPSHC) launched a new electronic health information system at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
It is being called the ONE Initiative, making the WPSHC the first hospital in the region to implement the synchronized system. The aim is to improve the way care is received, provided, and supported.
The facility’s ‘wave one’ partners include Sault Area Hospital and North Bay Regional Health Centre. Those organizations plan on going live with the system at the end of October.
According to a release from the WPSHC, physicians and departmental teams from all three hospitals have been working on the system for two years.
“I am very proud of our staff and physicians who are making this exceptional transformation possible,” WPSHC CEO Donald Sanderson said in the release. “We are improving care for our patients and families with a system that is safer, better, smarter for everyone who receives, provides, or supports care.”
The release added anyone visiting WPSHC will notice an increase in staff. According to the organization, they are supporting the launch with expertise from vendors, consultants and departmental teams from project partners.
The release said that some processes may talk longer than usual as the facility gets more familiar with the new technology.
“During a meeting in 2016 the Board provided initial approval for participation in this project and we have been watching it closely ever since,” WPSHC Board Chair Tom Shultz said in the release. “We recognize the investment of time, talent, and resources that have been necessary to reach this milestone.”
