Connor Industries receives $1,000,000 from the government

PARRY SOUND, ON-Connor industries has been given $1 million to help expand the company.

During a press conference today, MP for Sault Ste. Marie Terry Sheehan announced that the repayable Government Loan is coming from the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario (FedNor), will help the company expand and improve their production.

Sheehan told the MyParrySoundNow.com newsroom that the loan will help the company eventually hire 30 more highly skilled staff and increase its production by buying new equipment to use in the manufacturing process. “Through the use of innovation and new technologies, Connor Industries will modernize its manufacturing plant, improve productivity and increase production to meet demand for its products, all while reducing costs. Our government’s investment will also enable the company to maintain and create highly-skilled jobs right here in the North,” said Sheehan.

Connor Industries has become well known for crafting commercial boats that assist various forms of emergency services like fire, rescue and patrol.

President of Connor Industries Bill Connor said that receiving the loan was great and plans to use a significant portion of it to expand the company by constructing a new building. “With the space we have now we are only able to build one boat a day, but if we were to get another building we could bring that up to three,” said Connor.

Connor said that this donation will help them create more commercial boats to allow the company to competitively bid at the global level.
