PARRY SOUND, ON-The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit has confirmed its first COVID-19 case in the region.
The person infected is a woman in her 60’s who had returned after travelling internationally.
When she returned, the woman followed the self-isolation recommendations and called the health unit who referred her to the North Bay Regional Health Centre’s COVID-19 Assessment Centre.
The woman was not admitted to the hospital and instead sent home to self-isolate as the health unit monitors the situation.
Medical Officer of Health with the unit Dr. Jim Chirico said that the health unit and the residents need to continue working together as a community to keep one another healthy. “The measures we are asking to do now will save lives. Stay home if you are sick or in self-isolation and physically distance yourself from others.”
The health unit said that it is expected that more people will test positive in their district and the public plays an important role in helping reduce the spread. It is recommended that people practice physical distancing and to protect those around you, make sure you wash your hands thoroughly and cover up when you cough or sneeze.
