NBPS Health Unit’s update on vaccines

The local health unit has yet to get any news on the type of vaccine, the number of doses or when the vaccine will arrive in the district.

When they do arrive, the health unit says priority populations will be getting the vaccine first.

According to a Thursday update, if enough doses come in priority will go to the following four groups in parallel.

Residents, staff, essential caregivers, family caregivers and other employees in Long-Term Care and Retirement Homes.

Health care workers, including hospital employees and staff who work or study in hospitals and healthcare personnel.

Adults in First Nations, Métis and Inuit populations, as well as adult recipients of chronic home health care.

However, if doses are limited, immunizations will be prioritized and done in sequence, with those having the highest risk of illness and death vaccinated first.
