Six locals attending Northern Ontario 5 Pin Bowlers’ Association’s provincials

Half a dozen Parry Sounders are on their way to Dryden to compete in the Northern Ontario 5 Pin Bowlers’ Association’s P-O-A provincials.

First, there’s Glynis Phillips and Laurie Madigan who are gearing up to compete with their individual teams. Phillips, Madigan and their teammates qualified by beating out other members in the tournament’s Gateway Contingent. With each team comprised of the top four men and top four women, Phillips came in second making Team A and Madigan came in fourth to make Team B. The other members of Team A & B are from the North Bay Area.

The pair will be going toe to toe against mixed teams from all over northern Ontario to hopefully win some hardware and make it to the National round.

Second, Cathy Todd and Dave Norrie are pairing up for the hi/lo doubles and will be competing to win provincials and hopefully make it back home with some extra cash and hardware. The hi/lo doubles follow the same POA system with only the top two teams from each house able to move on to provincials.

Finally, in the executive round, a competition for bowlers who hold positions within the bowling community, Jacob Eldridge is playing under the president category, while Carrie Porter is playing under the secretary category. The executive round only sees one member of each category moving on to the provincials.

The bowlers will be representing Parry Sound in the competition that’s set to kick off Thursday (Feb.23rd).
