Downtown Business Association planning Maple Syrup Festival for May

The local Downtown Business Association (DBA) is bringing together a Maple Syrup Festival for the region.

April Denman, Parry Sound DBA Executive Director, spoke to council last week about the new event to be held in Parry Sound next spring.

“The Maple Syrup festival is meant to bring all the agricultural community together from all of the surrounding municipalities. We have a lot of really great vendors as we see from the markets that are around, so we’re hoping to bring everybody back together again,” she says.

Denman says the DBA is looking for the Mayors and Reeves of the West Parry Sound District to judge the Maple syrup as well as a Butter Tart contest. She says they’re also asking municipalities for contacts in their own region for producers.

“We are in the early planning stages for this, but they’d like to move people around throughout the entire downtown. From the waterfront up to James Street where we’ll close off the street down to Legend and Trussville area. Hopefully with a horse drawn wagon, that’s the idea,” she says.

Denman says the DBA is planning to run the event in the shoulder season, kicking off as early as May 4.
