A blood drive is being held on May 24 in memory of former Parry Sound resident Jo Bossart.
Bossart died in May 2023, after a 15-moth long battle with leukemia.
He was a photographer and blogger, who posted his photos to ParrySights.com and opinions on town issues at ParrySounds.com.
His wife Anne said he received a lot of blood while he was being treated in hospital.
“They put bag after bag after bag of platelets and red blood cells into him to the point where I said I think we need to make Canadian Blood Services our primary charitable recipient going forward, and he agreed with me,” said Anne.
After Jo’s passing, Anne reached out to Canadian Blood Services to organize a blood drive in his honour. The event will take place at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church (52 Church St.) on May 24 from 4:30 to 5:05 p.m.
“I thought this was a meaningful way to honour his memory and help other people who are in a similar situation and a very real way of demonstrating our appreciation for what Canadian Blood Services does,” said Anne.
To register for the local blood drive visit give.blood.ca.
According to Anne, donations in Jo’s memory can be made at any time, at any blood drive across the province if you register as a member of his team.
