22 Wing hosts inaugural Cadet Day

Approximately 100 Sea, Army and Air Cadets from around the northeast region converged on 22 Wing CFB North Bay last Saturday.

They took part in the inaugural 22 Wing Cadet Day, learning more about the Royal Canadian Air Force.

“I have been able to experience so many amazing things through the cadet program such as the 22 Wing Cadet Day, which has opened my eyes to the past and present of air defence. Throughout my cadet career I have realized a passion for flying, and to become a pilot,” says Air Cadet Warrant Officer Second Class Eva Standing, with 844 Norseman Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron.

The cadets learned about current technologies and the history of air defence, what military members do to prepare before deployment, and more.

Col. Richard Jolette, 22 Wing and Canadian Air Defence Commander, says quite a few members are former cadets, including himself.

“Since this year is the Royal Canadian Air Force Centennial, we thought it fitting to hold our inaugural 22 Wing Cadet Day to highlight how important it is that we share our stories and inspire future generations,” he says.

The event drew ten cadet units from across the north, including Sudbury, Parry Sound, Huntsville, New Liskeard, North Bay and elsewhere.
