Conversations around the development of affordable homes on 743-acres of land in Seguin Township are continuing.
Last March, the municipality was granted a municipal zoning order to fast-track the rezoning of the land for residential development.
The property is in the northwest corner of the township, behind the Parry Sound Rona and Canadian Tire.
Representatives from Bash Developments, the company tasked with developing the land, addressed council on May 13 and voiced an interest in beginning construction as quickly as possible.
According to Seguin officials, details on how to service the site are still being worked out and conversations are being had to help guide the creation of a site plan for the project.
Jason Inwood, Seguin Chief Administrative Officer, says the focus is to ensure the development includes a variety of affordable homes.
“One of the most important components to this development is affordability,” said Inwood. “The Bash Developments team have been very focused on ensuring we are building homes that reach a vast variety of folks, but most importantly that there is some affordability here. So people can afford to buy a home and call Seguin and West Parry Sound home.”
Warris Kamran of Bash Developments said he was eager to work with the town to draft a site plan that will meet the needs of the community, and that he would love to begin construction “tomorrow.”
Mayor Ann MacDiarmid also expressed an eagerness to move the project forward as quickly as possible.
“We can’t wait to get shovels in the ground,” she said. “We are anxious to see the work start.”
