Officials with the Town of Parry Sound are concerned about an increase in traffic on the southwest side of town if Parry Sound Road was extended.
In December, Seguin Township approached the town about extending the road. The topic was back in front of Parry Sound council last night.
Chief Administrative Officer Clayton Harris expressed a desire to see a thorough traffic study completed that would assess the full impact of a possible extension.
“When the boundary road is completed, traffic from not only any subdivision developments that would happen in the MZO area, but also traffic from Oaslter Park Drive and (Highway) 400, would find a shortcut through to Rose Point (Road), Parry Island and spots in the southwest side of town,” said Harris. “The roads that exist in Parry Sound at this time aren’t capable of handling that amount of traffic in a safe way both for vehicles and pedestrians.”
He requested councils permission to have staff continue discussions with Seguin Township staff with the hope of addressing these concerns.
“I think it is vitally important that we do get talking and get this addressed,” said Coun. Joe Beleskey.
Council unanimously approved the request.
