Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary welcomes two red foxes

Two red foxes have been brought to Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary after being seized.

Linda Glimps, executive director of the Rosseau, Ont.- based operation, explains Candle and Flame were being housed improperly.

“While the majority of animals are brought to us for reasons beyond their control, every animal has a unique story to tell,” she says. “Candle and Flame, for instance, were being kept at an Ontario-based facility without proper authorization and were later seized by government authorities.”

The facility is home to multiple foxes, including Eddy, also a red fox.

Glimps says the 460-acre sanctuary is one of only a few in Canada that has the resources and natural environment needed to meet the needs of Ontario’s native species on a long-term basis. She adds it’s important they offer this since the alternative for animals that can’t be returned to the wild is to euthanize them.

“We had the space, and thanks to the generosity of our donors, we were able to make a forever commitment to Candle and Flame,” adds Glimps.

She explains when the foxes arrived, they went through a health exam and sanctuary staff worked on creating a housing and nutrition plane for them.
