Parry Sound Pride hosting picnic at Waubuno Beach

There will be some celebrating going on this Saturday at Waubuno Beach.

Parry Sound Pride will be hosting the town’s first ever Pride Picnic beginning at 11 a.m.

Organizer Maria Voinovski-Boucher says LGBTQ+ people don’t want to just live amongst the community of parry sound, but with it.

“That includes having pride events, meeting people and not hiding our sexuality, our gender expression, or whatever the situation may be, and feeling like the community supports us as well as us supporting ourselves and each other,” she said.

The event will include face-painting, music, prizes and more. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own snacks.

Voinovski-Boucher created the event in order to give members of the LGBTQ+ community a safe space to celebrate Pride month.

“It is very, very important for queer people to be given the opportunity to gather in a safe space as queer people to celebrate their diversity. That is what this first event is giving us the opportunity to do,” she said.
