Retired teachers support ‘Let’s Make a Splash’ fundraising campaign

A group of retired teachers and educators are among those showing their support for the West Parry Sound Recreation and Cultural Centre project.

The teachers are participating in the ‘Let’s Make a Splash’ fundraising campaign, being run in partnership with Moose FM, and have raised nearly $4,700 for the new pool.

Former West Parry Sound Director of Education, Len Yauk, said the hope is to encourage others to support a facility the community really needs.

“It’s a facility that isn’t just to dip your toes in the water, but to be used for therapy, that has exercise facilities, that people can gather for health purposes, for recreational purposes, socially. It is something that communities really need in these challenging days,” he said.

The Masonic Lodge, Parry Sound Youth Soccer and West Parry Sound pickleball players are among the other groups supporting the project.

Officials say all donations, up to $100,000 will be matched by an anonymous donor.
