Is the design of the West Parry Sound Recreation and Cultural Centre finished?

Although sitework has started, changes could be coming to the West Parry Sound Recreation and Cultural Centre design.

A resolution on the July 10 board agenda is calling for an increase in the aquatic center viewing area.

The resolution, from Seguin Township Coun. Terry Fellner, asks the project manager and design team to provide detailed pricing for four options which would expand the pool area viewing. These options include:

  • Increasing the existing retractable bleacher seating on the north end of the pool by as much as possible.
  • Adding another retractable bleacher configuration to the western wall.
  • The addition of cantilevered bleachers that would hang off of the area backed by the pool storage area, guard office and male change room.
  • Any other potential ideas for a significant increase in viewing area in the aquatic centre that cost no more than $200,000.

The current design has 117 seats with a view of the pool, including 60 bleacher seats and 35 bench seats.

Seating has been a conversation at the past few board meetings, including on June 12, when the board agreed that a second floor viewing area was not in the budget.

“I am not content, however, that we cannot find some better seating within the existing envelope, and I think it behooves us to pursue that,” said Fellner.

“I am not totally convinced yet that we have explored all of the viable options to put better seating in the pool area.”
