Town seeking public input on future of Waubuno Road bridge

The Town of Parry Sound wants public feedback regarding the future of the Waubuno Road bridge.

A recent inspection of the structure revealed several deficiencies that need to be addressed to extend the bridge’s life. These repairs are estimated to cost around $350,000.

“There are concerns that the buried wood components of the bridge structure may require further work once they are uncovered and available for inspection,” states a staff report,  presented to council on June 18.

The report presented council with three options: repair the bridge, replace it, or remove it all together.

Staff are recommending its removal in order “to create a safe and usable level crossing to ensure that a future infrastructure servicing corridor is available.”

A petition from residents convinced council to postpone a decision on the matter until more information, including public feedback, could be collected.

The Town is now seeking input. Reports on the bridge and a section where residents can submit their input can be found at parrysound.ca.
