The 103.3 Moose FM radiothon raised more than $22,00 for the West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation on July 19.
Foundation CEO Deborah Loosemore was thrilled with the community support, as donations poured from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the live on-air event.
“It was so wonderful to see how generous the people of Parry Sound and area were. It was a combination of people who live here year round and people who visit during the summer. To me that says how important the hospital is to anyone who is in the region at any time,” she said.
Loosemore reiterated the importance of the event, noting that the province does not provide hospitals with funding to purchase new equipment.
The funds raised will go towards the purchase of a new bone mineral density machine.
“It is a special x-ray machine that measures the density in our bones. Knowing that you have a low bone density mass or that you are heading into osteoporosis means that you can take steps to avoid fractures and injuries that may really have an effect on how you live your life,” said Loosemore.
