The Township of Seguin will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of Rosseau Memorial Hall tomorrow.
Director of Community Services, Dominique O’Brien says the landmark, constructed of local fieldstone opened in August of 1924.
“It was dedicated to the local soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War and they later extended that to the fallen soldiers of the Second World War,” said O’Brien. “In the buildings actually cornerstones they list the names of the building committee and the architect as well as the soldiers who served in the first and second world wars.”
A celebration will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday and feature live music, family-friendly activities and a historical exhibit.
At 1 p.m. Mayor Ann MacDiarmid will recognize members of the Foote family. The estate of Robert Foote left a $2 million bequest to fund the restoration of the Hall, which will take place over the next year.
