Pearl Mist to return to Parry Sound town dock

The Pearl Mist will be docking at the Town Dock when it returns to Parry Sound on Aug. 20.

An assessment conducted by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) last year determined that the dock is in need of extensive repairs. According to town officials, limits were put in place in order to limit the amount of strain put on the structure. This forced cruise ships to dock elsewhere.

“(Engineers) have come to an agreement on some methodologies that can be changed to be able to create a docking procedure for the Pearl Mist,” said Dave Thompson, director of development and protective services, at a council meeting on Aug. 13.

“The mooring of the Pearl Mist was resolved ages ago. They figured out how they could tie the lines that wouldn’t put more stress on the bollards. The last two months have been spent solely on the issue of the Pearl Mist coming up against the dock (birthing) and not putting more stress on the dock.”

Details were ironed out on Aug. 14, and the Pearl Mist will be able to return to its place at the Town Dock when it returns to town on Aug. 20 and 22.

Cruise ships are slated to visit the town 11 times over the course of August, September and October.
