Local resident Kim Magee raised over $4,000 thousand for the West Parry Sound Recreation and Cultural Centre project on Aug. 25.
Magee swam six kilometers around Nine Mile Lake to generate funds and awareness for the new six-lane pool.
“Swimming is the only real exercise I can do. This pool will save my life,” said Magee. “It will be a wonderful gathering place for the whole community. My swim is my contribution to make sure it gets built as soon as possible.”
She says the swim is also her contribution to the ‘Let’s Make a Splash’ community fundraising campaign, which runs until Nov. 24.
The campaign sees every dollar raised, up to $100,000, matched by an anonymous donor.
