Construction is booming in Parry Sound.
A total of 26 building permits have been issued through the first two quarters of the year, at a value of $45.1 million dollars.
It’s a 103 per cent increase from last year and a 208 per cent increase from 2022, according to Parry Sound CAO Clayton Harris.
Last year, 83 building permits were issued at a value of $22.2 million.
In 2022, 66 building permits were issued at a value of $14.7 million.
Harris says the significant increase in construction is great for the local economy.
“There is a lot of value going into the ground which affects trades and employment,” he said. Also there is a lot of work for the various staff and departments that are involved in building permit review and inspection…there is significantly more activity volume and value wise in 2024 versus the last couple of years.”
The significant building permit issued in the first half of 2024 was for the new Parry Sound super school. Town officials anticipate issuing the permit for the West Parry Sound Recreation and Cultural Centre later this year, which will be a ‘significant addition’ to this year’s totals.
