Work has started on the foundation of the West Parry Sound Recreation and Cultural Centre.
Jason Homewood of Ball Construction – the firm now managing the project – provided an update to the project board at a meeting last night, noting that the first concrete pour for the foundation took place yesterday.
Homewood says the foundation should be complete by early next year, along with the structural steel frame. The building walls, windows and roof will be done in the spring, and the pool is slated to be installed in the summer.
The projects targeted completion date is mid-March of 2026.
Homewood says the project budget is $39.3 million, about $3 million more than initially budget of $36.4 million.
“The majority of the increase in budget is related to additional unforeseen work that took place during early works, specifically around rock blasting and additional fill that was required,” said Homewood.
