Bell is continuing to install fiber optic cable throughout Seguin Township.
The project is part of the nearly $4 billion investment to enhance internet connectivity in Ontario’s underserved communities.
Forrest Pengra, director of strategic innovations with the Township, says progress is being made but detailed updates aren’t being provided.
“Our community is one of many that they are blanketing fibre (optic cable) in and providing the granular level updates that I have been pushing very hard for is having limited success. Part of that is because Bell doesn’t want to over-promise and under-deliver,” he said.
Officials say the Township has been broken into four regions. Construction is currently underway in one region, while the remaining three are in the design phase.
The provincial funding mandates the project be completed by December 2025.
