Seguin Township councillors could be getting a pay raise.
At a meeting on Oct. 21, Coun. Ted Collins put forth a motion to increase councillor pay by $9,500, to nearly $35,000 a year.
“This is not about us today, it is about tomorrow and specifically Seguin’s future,” said Collins. “We are not getting any younger and we need to pave the way forward to entice others to municipal council.”
According to Collins, it’s been more than 10 years since Seguin councillors last received a raise.
The pay bump will be one of the items debated in the coming months during 2025 budget discussions.
