Parry Sound to purchase new ambulances

Parry Sound District EMS will soon be getting new ambulances.

Town council approved the purchase of the two new vehicles at a meeting on Nov. 5.

Fire Chief Dave Thompson says the local emergency service purchases ambulances that are slightly larger than most, in order to fit two stretchers, if necessary.

“The potential with our vast geography, and the fact that we have the two highway corridors running through the District of Parry Sound, has led the (EMS) manager and myself to believe that it is still a worthy investment. If there are car accidents, instead of having another ambulance come up, we can take two patients,” said Thompson.

Each ambulance will cost just under $260,000.
