All-season activities the focus for FedNor funding locally

Over $1.7 million in federal funding is supporting ten strategic outdoor tourism initiatives in Northern Ontario.

Two are in our area.

Camp Dore is receiving a $250,000 loan from FedNor to support facility renovations and upgrades, including service upgrades and cabin and dock expansions and redesigns.

Officials say the funding will allow the camp to become a year-round tourism destination.

“Northern Ontario is a place of boundless natural beauty, and destination for adventure, culture, and relaxation,” said Paty Hadju, Minister of Indigenous Services and the minister responsible for FedNor.

“The Government of Canada understands that investing in tourism helps us showcase our fantastic region and boost our local economies. By supporting projects that draw visitors to our region, we are helping Northern Ontario create and seize new opportunities for development.”

Also receiving funding is Parry Sound Cruise Line.

They will receive a $100,000 loan to support the expansion of excursion experiences on Georgian Bay. The funding will allow for the installation of a dock system, electrical system and additional lodging at Sandy Island. These improvements will create a host site from which the cruise line can launch tours of Georgian Bay.
