The Town of Parry Sound could be spending $18.1 million on capital projects this year.
At a meeting on Feb. 11, council discussed the 2025 draft capital budget. Projects include significant upgrades to a sewage pumping station at 99 Champagne St., the replacement of the on-ice sound system at the Bobby Orr Community Centre, town dock repairs and more.
“Our budget is driven by (the) health and safety of all the infrastructure we have in town and making sure we can deliver continuity of services. We don’t want the services we deliver to be interrupted,” said chief administrative officer Clayton Harris. “Proper maintenance of infrastructure is important. Also, supporting growth. We are seeing a lot of developments in town and we want to make sure we continue to support that growth.”
The largest project on the capital budget, which accounts for $10.7 million of the 2025 spending, will see upgrades made to a pumping station in order to allow for an additional 2,400 housing units in the harbor area.
The majority of the capital budget will be funded with provincial grants (54%) and town reserves (37%).
